Major Harry L. Boyd, United States Marine Corps (Ret.)

Major Boyd enlisted in the Marine Corps on 14 June 1995. Upon completion of basic training and the

School of Infantry, he was assigned to 2d Battalion 2d Marines as a Squad Automatic Weapon gunner. In April of 2001, Sergeant Boyd reported to Marine Corps Security Forces Training Company in Chesapeake,Va for duty as a Close Quarters Battle Instructor. He was subsequently selected for the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) program, and reported for duty in Newport RI in August of 2002. In August of 2003, Staff Sergeant Boyd reported for duty at the University of South Carolina under the Marine Corps Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP).


In May of 2006, Staff Sergeant Boyd graduated with degrees in Global Supply Chain Management and Human Resources Management. Upon graduation, he received a commission as a Second Lieutenant and reported to The Basic School in Quantico, Va. in July of 2006. 


In August of 2007, Second Lieutenant Boyd deployed on a Military Transition Team as a Logistics adviser to the Iraqi Army in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Upon redeployment, First Lieutenant Boyd served as Battalion S-4 at 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion.  In September of 2009, First Lieutenant Boyd reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC for duty. During his tour he served as a Series Commander, Company Executive Officer, and Company Commander.


In July of 2012, Captain Boyd reported to the Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, VA. Upon

completion of Expeditionary Warfare School, he reported to II Marine Expeditionary Force G-4 in May 2013 and worked as the Marine Forces Europe/Africa regional planner until February 2015. Major Boyd reported to The Citadel in February 2015 where he  served as the Marine Officer Instructor and Assistant Professor of Naval Science. 


Additionally, Major Boyd received his Masters in Leadership Studies from Marshall University in May 2015. Major Boyd’s personal awards include: Meritorious Service Medal Navy Commendation medal with “V” distinguishing device (2 gold stars), Navy and Marine Corps achievement medal (1 gold star), Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct medal (1 bronze star) and the Drill Instructor ribbon.


Major Boyd retired from the Marine Corps on 31 August 2018 and assumed his current duties as the Senior Naval Science Instructor at Dreher High School. 


Additionally, Major Boyd received his Masters in Leadership Studies from Marshall University in May 2015. He is married to the former Tiffany Perkins (12 years) of Columbia, SC. They have three children; Trenton (14 years old),  Jasmine (8 years old), and Brianna (5 years old).
